How a premium domain transfer actually closes

4 min read · updated 2026-09-29

A premium name does not have an Add to Cart button that means anything. The sequence is correspondence, a written price, an escrow agreement, then the registry move. Skipping escrow to “go faster” is how names get stranded between accounts.

After terms are accepted, buyer and seller open escrow with a house both sides already trust — commonly Escrow.com or DAN, or a lawyer’s trust account if counsel is already in the deal. The buyer funds escrow. The seller does not push the name on a promise.

Transfer mechanics depend on the registrar. Usually it is an auth code plus an account change, or a push if both parties sit at the same registrar. DNS cutover is scheduled, not improvised. Expect a few days once funds are in, not a same-hour impulse buy, and not a month of silence either.

Confidentiality is the default. The inquiry does not get published, and the price does not go on a marketplace grid. If you need a broker on the buy side, say so in the first note. The mailbox is [email protected].
